Kayla Houdek

I am majoring in Art and Design as well as English, with plans to also major in Creative Writing.



I am an avid drawer and illustrator, and mostly enjoy drawing from observation and in detail. My preferred medium is graphite; I am also familiar with charcoal, carbon dust, pen and ink, watercolor, and colored pencil. I enjoy scienitific illustration, portraits, still lifes, and figure drawing. I hope to professionally go into illustration in the future and further develop my skills in a variety of mediums.

The pieces in my portfolio range from my sophomore year of high school in 2012, to the present, my junior year at the University of Michigan.

I also am a lover of fiction with interest in poetry. I enjoy writing short stories, but hope to one day write a novel.
